Here a Duck, There a Duck, Everywhere a Duck Duck
________________________________________________________________
On our way home from church Sunday, we encountered an interesting sight. By the river, there were dozens of ducks huddled in a parking area. I thought they were rocks at first, but the kids rightly saw them move and realized they were ducks. Even though we were on a rush to be somewhere, Michael turned the van around and we went to go duck watching.
The ducks didn't want to be watched. As we pulled in, they flew directly towards us. Tim, in all his quippiness said, "It's the ducks all over again!" I let them watch an edited version of Alfred Hitchcock's, The Birds, and ever since, when we see a flock of any kind of bird, that's Tim's official line. Although this time, there really were a lot of them, and they were flying right into the car!
Poor things had to have been cold. It was about 20 degrees that day. I think they had gotten used to people feeding them, and that's why they flocked towards us. Our intention was just to look at them, but soon the kids talked me into letting them get out and see how close they could get.
Signs warned us not to feed them, and to especially not feed them bread. Not enough nutrients. Michael wants to get some cracked corn or whatever ducks eat that's healthy, and take the kids to feed them every week after church.
