Success!

I managed to get the kids to mostly listen to me today with only a modicum of trouble. Tim, my dear sweet boy whom I adore, gives me the most trouble. I know he loves me and a sweeter boy you will not find. But I had to sit him down and tell him that when he disobeys me and ignores my requests that he is disrespecting me and it hurts my feelings. Since then, he's been pretty good.
You know how desperate a kid is to watch TV when they say, "Mom, the Dick Van Dyke Show DVD is due back at the library. Can we watch it before it's overdue?" In all fairness, who doesn't love the Dick Van Dyke Show? Riley wants it on DVD for her 16th birthday. Go figure. I was tough mom and told them no. Amazing.
Then I sent them outside. Which I wasn't supposed to do, but when Daddy is home with the kids all day trying to get them to do what they are supposed to do (which he doesn't, because they are smart and listen to daddy!) he can restrict them from playing outside! Holy cats, I'm enjoying the quiet! I can actually hear the washing machine run it's so quiet!
Last night, while the kids were cleaning their rooms, Xander and I watched Scooby Doo. He said, "Mommy, I can watch Scooby Doo cuz I not grounded." That's right little man. Who knows? Maybe he's learning something and he won't give me as hard a time when he's 8, 9 and 11. You'll notice I'm not mentioning Riley. She's extremely good 97% of the time. The worst she'll do is get distracted by a book or listening to music and forget something. It's not willful disobedience like some children I could name... Timothy, Maggie, and to a lesser extent Emily. If Tim and Maggie ever put their heads together, I fear they could conquer the world with little trouble.
They do tend to find more trouble without electronic devices to depend on. My aunt sent Maggie some body crayons for Christmas. She took Xander and drew a mustache and goatee on him. He runs up to me and says, "Look, Mama. I a MAN! I a Daddy MAN!" Holy. Moly. Yes, she gave him a bath before his nap.
