Emily's Germophobia ________________________________________________________________
The kids and Michael have creeping crud. But I feel MUCH better! Which is good because someones got to hold this place together. Emily is losing her voice. She's all croaky like she smokes a couple packs of Marlboro's a day. Kind of like Amy Winehouse. Not good, folks.

Speaking of Emily, I meant to tell you about the latest in the Emily saga the other day. When I was out with Maggie, she told me that she noticed Emily wiping her hands on her pants all the time so she asked her why and she said it was the germs. and she'd go and wash her hands. So I talked to Emily about this. She told me that every time she touches her legs, feet, nose, eyes or anything she deems "yucky", she washes her hands. No wonder she's always in the bathroom! I thought she was just playing (because I hear her singing). No wonder my Bath and Body Works hand soap disappears so quickly... I was beginning to wonder about that...

So now we know why her hands are always chapped and dry. No matter how much of the greasy creamy lotions I use, even prescriptions, her hands only get better for a short period of time. Mystery solved. Washing your hands 168 times a day probably has a somewhat drying effect on them.

Good to know she doesn't have eczema. She only has obsessive compulsive disorder.

I had the same thing when I was a kid. In fact, I think my second grade teacher, Mrs. Sims (she was THE BEST) had to call my mother in for a meeting. After learning about germs in class, I suddenly wouldn't play with any of the boardgames with the other kids or touch the library books. And I spent a lot of time at the sink washing my hands.

I'll be back later with Riley news. I'm letting her aunt give her those red tips in her hair she's always wanted tonight. Michael has remained eerily quiet about the whole thing. Hopefully, I'll have some before and after pictures up soon! I'm trying not to be nervous. I hope it's subtle. She just colored her son's hair bright red. I really hope it's very, very subtle! I can't wait to see Mrs. Garden Gnome's face at church when she sees Riley's hair! Hah! I should bring a camera tomorrow, shouldn't I?

She never e-mailed me back by the way. It's been a couple of weeks. I'd say she's probably mad at me. Or she found this blog. And she's really, really mad at me. That wouldn't be good. I really would hate for her feelings to be hurt!!
