Book Reviewing Reviews
________________________________________________________________
Around July, I started volunteering at this fabulous book review website. They send me a list of books that need reviewing, I pick a few and review them. Fabulous! Except it involves a lot of ebooks. I haven't had a lot of experience with well written ebooks yet. I have chosen poorly.
I had to review my first total dog this month and it took a lot out of me. It was an erotic. I didn't realize that, but okay. And it was written by a 12 year old. Well, probably not, because that would be disgusting, but the dialog could have been. Maggie writes better dialog in her stories and she's 10. It was bad. Really bad. It was very simplistic and the same phrases were used over and over again. Very little imagination. The part of the story that took place in the past had modern day dialog mixed in with more realistic sounding dialog. Especially the naughty parts. I just can't see someone referring to a man's You Know that way. Don't they say "manhood" or something similar? I definitely don't think they'd talk like a two dollar stripper. I felt bad for the author, but I also felt bad that I had wasted a few hours of my life reading this crap. I tried not to be bitter about that in my review. I think I did allright. We'll see when it gets posted and I start getting nasty-grams!
One cool thing about being a reviewer is that some authors have actually taken to e-mailing me and asking me to review their books personally. What an honor! One is actually pretty good. I like his stuff, but he's sending me too much. I have to make myself read it. I have another really good book that I want to read in a bad way, but I feel guilty because this guy needs me to review his book and he keeps e-mailing me with new versions hoping it won't adversely effect my review. This gives me a small feeling of power that I enjoy. He's worried I'll give him a bad review! I'm too nice to give someone a really bad review. It won't happen. (Except for the lady who wrote like a 12 year old because really I'm doing the world a favor there! Honestly!) Mostly because he's really nice and I can tell it would shred him. I already had to tell him he needs to get a new editor because there are a ton of punctuation mistakes and grammatical errors. If I can pick up on grammatical errors, you have a serious problem.
I did start to read a rather good ebook. Of course I had to stop because I have to finish this one (only 150 pages to go!) and he sent me another one to review as well. *sigh* It is rather fun to "have" to read a book though, I have to say. A lot of fun!
